Renovation of the psychiatric wing at Griffin Hospital was part of an overall plan to improve hospital facilities. The project allowed the hospital to update the look and feel of the unit to create a sense of calm for both patients and families. The new psychiatric unit contains private and semi-private rooms, a residential style kitchen, a lounge and a large saltwater aquarium. The nature of the renovations required the unit to close during construction, but an aggressive schedule ensured the project was completed on a fast track. All HVAC, plumbing and mechanical work on the psychiatric wing of the hospital was completed within one month while maintaining a fully operational system for the rest of the hospital. Among the various mechanical systems installed were steam humidifiers and heat recovery units.
