Education Award 2004 – Connecticut Real Estate Awards
Waterbury Campus
Waterbury, CT
The University's Downtown Waterbury Campus is a key part of the downtown Waterbury Revitalization Project. The 106,000 square foot educational facility is located in the heart of the city across from the Palace Theater. The academic building houses classrooms, seminar rooms, and individual laboratories for research, computer science, chemistry, biology, and physics, each equipped with 24 student stations.
The Campus building was designed to share a common source of heat, power, and water with other buildings adjacent to the campus. As a result, the success of the project required coordination with an adjacent parking garage to allow seamless installation and operation of all required mechanical systems including plumbing, HVAC, piping, and ductwork. In addition, a stainless steel deionizing water system was installed to feed purified water to the campus laboratories.
